What is Engineered Stone?

Typically made of marble and quartz, engineered stone is a composite material of crushed stone that is held together with adhesive. Unlike terrazzo or other manufactured stones, engineered stone is not made of blocks or slabs that must be cut and polished by fabricators and assembled at worksites. Rather, engineered stone is produced on-site. Homeowners receive all the benefits of solid stones (durability, fire resistance, etc.) but for a fraction of the cost and the weight. Engineered stone is lighter because it is less dense than solid stone. Moreover, because the engineered stone is man-made, it comes in a wider variety of colors and designs than natural stone.
