What is an Overlay
The overlay is the part of the front frame covered by a cabinet or by the front piece of its drawer. Overlay type is typically divided into two categories; full-overlay and partial-overlay. The former is more popular in modern kitchens, as the seamless appearance achieved by full-overlay nicely complements the subtle and understated look of that style. That said, full-overlay sized doors are not an appropriate substitute for frameless doors as they leave a gap of ?" along the edges of the frame. Partial-overlay, meanwhile, is more suited to kitchens seeking a warmer and less fussy feel. Doors and drawers created in this style leave a 2" gap along the edges, an overlap consistent through every cabinet in a run.
