What is a Mounting Plate

A mounting plate is a piece of hardware that mounts the hinge, latch, or handle to the cabinet. Mounting plates are designed to make doors attach to frames with relative ease. The mounting plate is simply a component of the hinge that connects (mounts) to the wood. Mounting plates are used in a variety of applications, from doors and furniture to cabinetry. Since the size of the mounting plate will affect the door overlay, cabinet makers must be cautious and choose an adequately sized mounting plate for any given project.
