What is an Urethane

Urethane is often used as an abbreviation for polyurethane, which is a sealer applied to cabinets or wood to protect from nicks and dings. When polyurethane is applied, it is essentially a plastic coating that is used as a protective layer on the outside of a wood surface. Acrylic urethane, however, differs from polyurethane in multiple ways.

Polyurethane chips and stains much less easily than acrylic urethane while both are applied the same way. For a better protective coat, polyurethane is recommended over acrylic urethane.
