What is an Undercoat

The undercoat is the layer of paint applied just before the final layer. Often referred to as the primer, the undercoat allows for a smoother application of the topcoat and typically gives the topcoat a richer and more vibrant appearance. What's more, application of an undercoat means another layer of protection between the surface of your cabinets and the moisture that can warp and splinter its wood. That same layer also helps to protect against damage done by dents, knocks and scratches. Though combination paint and primers exist, many painters both professional and amateur prefer to use a separate primer as the results from doing so are typically superior to those gained from using combination products.
