What is a Tongue and Groove

Tongue and groove is a process of fitting wood together edge to edge. Tongue and groove refers to a joint that allows two pieces of wood to be combined together--one piece of wood is hollowed out to accept the other which forms a male and female end. This groove and tongue construction fits together seamlessly. This process or construction makes the two pieces of wood form a stronger bond than it would otherwise. Tongue and groove is typically used in flooring, wall paneling, or other types of construction and is not glued to allow for expansion and contraction as temperatures rise and fall.
