What is a Red Oak Wood

Red oak wood is the most commonly available hardwood in North America. It is used for furniture, cabinets, flooring, millwork, trim and more. The natural color of red oak wood is light brown with a reddish tint. The sapwood of red oak is white to light brown and the heartwood offers that pinkish-reddish brown coloring. The wood is similar in general appearance to white oak. Red oak wood is mostly straight-grained, with a coarse texture and heavier and harder than other commonly used woods. Red oak wood can have a moderate blunting effect on cutting surfaces, so sharp tooling is recommended during construction or install.
