What is a Knife Hinge

A knife hinge is a style of hinge typically used in situations that warrant a semi-concealed hinge. Knife hinges allow cabinet doors to open fully and rest against adjacent cabinet with minimal visible hardware, typically only the pin and axis point of the hinge remains visible. Knife hinge installation is slightly more difficult than some other more common hinges. The reason is that the plane of the hinge needs to be oriented perfectly, leaving little room for error. For this reason, manufacturers often include a slot screw hole to allow minor adjustments to be made easily. Knife hinges are typically made for both left and right sides of cabinets / doors.
