What Is A Base Skin?

Also referred to as the "toe kick" or the "toe skin," the base skin is the recessed area found between the bottom of a floor-mounted cabinet and the floor. Typically more shallow than the remainder of the cabinet, the base skin allows space for the feet of those working within the kitchen and also blocks food and dirt that might otherwise mar the bottom of the cabinet. Base skins can generally be ordered in finishes identical to those of the cabinets they're attached to and are created in pre-determined widths.
