Wall Oven Cabinets: What Size You Need and How to Fit Your Oven
What size cabinet do you need for a wall oven?

Choose the oven first, then the cabinet. The oven's installation sheet gives the cutout width, height and depth, and the cabinet's opening must match it. Lily Ann's oven cabinets are 33 inches wide, 84 to 96 inches tall and 24 or 27 inches deep, each listing a 27 by 25-1/4 inch opening. A double wall oven needs a taller opening.

  • Choose the oven first, then the cabinet. The oven's cutout sheet decides the opening it needs.
  • Lily Ann oven cabinets are 33" wide, 84, 90, 93 or 96 inches tall, and 24" deep, with a 27"-deep option in some lines.
  • Every one we checked lists a 27" W x 25-1/4" H opening. Compare it with your oven's cutout width, height and depth.
  • Names do not match sizes. A "30-inch" oven and a "30-inch" cabinet are not a guaranteed fit.
  • Single vs double: a double wall oven needs a much taller opening. We do not currently list a double oven cabinet.
  • Match the height to your uppers: 84" with 30" wall cabinets, 90" with 36", 96" with 42".
  • We also sell Forno built-in wall ovens, each with a cutout download on its product page. Check the fit either way.

What a Wall Oven Cabinet Is

A wall oven cabinet is a tall cabinet with an open box built into it, sized to hold a built-in oven at a comfortable height instead of under the cooktop. Storage sits above and below the oven. It runs from the floor to the same height as your other tall cabinets, so the oven looks like part of the kitchen rather than a separate appliance.

You will see it sold under several names: oven cabinet, wall oven cabinet, tall oven cabinet, single oven cabinet and double oven cabinet. They all describe the same idea. What changes between them is the size and position of the opening, and that opening is the only thing that decides whether your oven fits.

This matters because the cabinet and the oven are bought separately, often from different companies. Nobody checks one against the other for you. If you order the cabinet first and the oven second, you can end up with an oven that will not go in.

What Size Cabinet Do You Need for a Wall Oven?

Choose the oven first, then the cabinet. Lily Ann's oven cabinets are 33 inches wide, 84, 90, 93 or 96 inches tall, and 24 inches deep, with a 27-inch-deep option in some lines. Each listing states its oven opening. Compare that opening with the cutout size on your oven's installation sheet before you order.

Here are the real dimensions from our live product listings, checked on 13 September 2026. The opening is the space the oven slides into.

Three things stand out. Every standard oven cabinet in the table is the same width. Height is the choice you make to match the rest of the kitchen. And every one has the same single opening, which is why the oven's own measurements, not the cabinet's name, settle the question.

How to Check That Your Oven Will Fit

Get the installation or cutout sheet for the exact oven model, not just the product name. Find the required cutout width, height and depth. Then compare each number with the opening and depth listed for the cabinet. If the oven needs a bigger opening than the cabinet lists, that cabinet will not take that oven as sold.

  1. Pick the oven model first. Write down the full model number. Two ovens with the same name size can need different openings.
  2. Download its cutout sheet. Appliance makers publish the cutout size, the clearances and the electrical or gas location in the installation guide. On the Forno wall ovens we sell, the product page has a download called Dimensions & Cut-Out Specifications.
  3. Compare width. The oven's required cutout width against the cabinet's listed opening width.
  4. Compare height. The same for height. A double oven needs a much taller opening than a single one.
  5. Compare depth. The oven's required depth against the cabinet's depth, remembering that power or gas connections may need space behind it.
  6. Check the support and ventilation notes. The oven maker says what the oven must sit on and how much air it needs. Follow those instructions exactly.
  7. If any number does not line up, stop and ask. Call us with the oven model and the cabinet you are looking at before you order either one.

We do not give a general cutout size on this page, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Cutouts are set by the oven maker, they vary by brand and model, and a wrong one causes real problems: an oven that will not slide in, one that is not supported properly, or one without the air gap it was designed to have. The oven's own sheet is the only number to trust.

Why the Name on the Oven Is Not Its Cutout

The size in an oven's name, such as 24, 27 or 30 inches, is a class name, not the size of the hole it needs. The front trim is usually wider than the part that goes into the cabinet, and the cabinet's opening is narrower than the cabinet itself because of its sides and frame. That is why a 30-inch oven and a 30-inch cabinet are not a guaranteed match.

Our oven cabinets show the same gap between outside size and opening size. The box is 33 inches wide, but the listed opening is 27 inches wide. The difference is the cabinet's own sides and face frame.

So when someone asks whether an oven will fit a certain cabinet, the honest answer is always the same: compare the oven's cutout numbers with the cabinet's opening numbers. Names and nominal sizes do not settle it.

Single vs Double Oven Cabinets

A single oven cabinet has one opening for one oven. A double oven cabinet has a much taller opening for a stacked double wall oven, or for an oven with a microwave or warming drawer above it. Lily Ann's oven cabinets are single-opening designs. We do not currently list a double oven cabinet.

If you have your heart set on a double wall oven, choose it first and read its cutout height. That tells you how tall the opening must be. Every oven cabinet we list has a single 27 by 25-1/4 inch opening, so a double oven will not fit in any of them.

We do sell double wall ovens, including the Forno Asti 30-inch double electric wall oven. The same rule applies to it as to any other oven: its cutout sheet decides the opening it needs, so check it against any cabinet before you buy.

Choosing the Height

Match the oven cabinet to your other tall cabinets and wall cabinets so the tops line up. Our size guide pairs 84-inch tall cabinets with 30-inch wall cabinets, 90-inch with 36-inch, and 96-inch with 42-inch. The oven opening does not move up with the extra height; the taller cabinets simply have more storage.

That pairing comes from our kitchen cabinet dimensions size guide, and it is the simplest way to keep a straight line across the top of the kitchen. Measure your ceiling first. A 96-inch cabinet needs a ceiling tall enough to take it, plus any crown molding you plan to add.

The 93-inch Colorado Shaker White size is an in-between option. It is useful when a 96-inch cabinet will not clear the ceiling or a soffit but you still want more storage than a 90-inch cabinet gives.

Height also affects how the oven sits in the kitchen. The listings give the size of the opening but not how high off the floor it sits, so if the oven's height matters to you, ask us before ordering rather than guessing from the photo.

Choosing the Depth: 24 or 27 Inches

Most oven cabinets are 24 inches deep, the same as a standard tall cabinet. Some of our lines also offer a 27-inch-deep version. Pick the deeper one when your oven's installation sheet needs more depth than a 24-inch cabinet gives. A 27-inch cabinet will stand 3 inches further forward than a 24-inch-deep cabinet beside it.

The deep version is listed in the Shaker Off-White pantry and oven cabinets collection, for example the 96-inch-tall 33 x 96 x 27 inch oven cabinet. Its opening is the same as the 24-inch version. Only the depth changes.

Decide on depth before you plan the rest of the run. Three inches is easy to see where the oven cabinet meets the countertop, so plan for it on purpose rather than finding out on installation day.

Where to Put a Wall Oven Cabinet

A wall oven cabinet usually goes at the end of a cabinet run, because it is full height and would break up a countertop in the middle. Good spots are beside the refrigerator, at the end of an L-shaped run, or in a tall bank with pantry cabinets. Leave counter space near it for setting down hot dishes.

  • At the end of a run. The tall cabinet ends the countertop neatly instead of splitting it in two.
  • In a tall bank. Next to a pantry or utility cabinet of the same height, it reads as one wall of storage. Our pantry cabinets come in the same 84, 90 and 96 inch heights.
  • Beside a landing spot. A stretch of counter near the oven gives you somewhere to put a hot tray down. This is a planning choice, not a code number, so plan it into your layout.
  • Away from tight door swings. Check that the oven door, the cabinet doors and any nearby refrigerator or dishwasher door can all open without hitting each other.

What Lily Ann Sells for a Wall Oven

We sell ready-to-assemble oven cabinets in many door styles, in 33-inch widths and 84, 90, 93 and 96 inch heights. We also sell built-in wall ovens from Forno. We do not currently list a double oven cabinet, and we do not claim any particular oven fits any particular cabinet. Check the opening against the oven's cutout sheet.

If you are unsure which cabinet suits the oven you have chosen, send us the oven's model number and the cabinet listing. Checking the numbers before an order is much easier than returning a tall cabinet afterwards.

The Short Version

A wall oven cabinet is a tall cabinet with a box for a built-in oven. Buy the oven first, get its cutout sheet, and compare the width, height and depth with the opening the cabinet lists. Our oven cabinets are 33 inches wide, 84 to 96 inches tall, and 24 or 27 inches deep, all with a single oven opening. For a double oven, you will need a cabinet with a taller opening than any we currently list.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What size cabinet for a wall oven?
It depends on the oven, so choose the oven first and read its cutout sheet. Lily Ann's oven cabinets are 33 inches wide, 84, 90, 93 or 96 inches tall, and 24 inches deep, with a 27-inch-deep option in some lines. Every one we checked lists a 27-inch-wide by 25-1/4-inch-high opening. If your oven's cutout is larger than the opening a cabinet lists, that cabinet will not take it.
2. What is the standard size of an oven cabinet?
There is no single standard, because each oven maker sets its own cutout. What is common is that oven cabinets follow tall-cabinet heights of 84, 90 and 96 inches and a depth of about 24 inches. Ours are all 33 inches wide, plus one 93-inch height and a 27-inch-deep option. The opening inside is what matters, and it is listed on each product page.
3. Can you put a wall oven in a cabinet?
Yes. That is what a wall oven is designed for. It slides into an opening in a tall oven cabinet or a base cabinet built for it. The oven maker's installation guide sets the cutout size, what the oven must rest on, and the air gaps it needs, so follow that guide exactly. A regular pantry or storage cabinet is not a substitute unless it was made to hold an oven.
4. Will a 30 inch oven fit in a 30 inch cabinet?
You cannot tell from the names. An oven's size name describes a size class, and the front trim is usually wider than the part that goes into the cabinet. A cabinet's opening is also narrower than the cabinet because of its sides and frame. Our oven cabinets, for example, are 33 inches wide with a 27-inch-wide opening. Compare the oven's cutout width with the cabinet's listed opening.
5. What size cabinet do I need for a 24 inch wall oven?
Use the cutout sheet for that exact 24-inch model, because cutouts differ between brands. Then find a cabinet whose listed opening is at least as large as that cutout in width and height, and deep enough for the oven. Our oven cabinets list a 27-inch-wide by 25-1/4-inch-high opening. Whether a given 24-inch oven fits it depends on the oven's own sheet, so check before ordering.
6. Do you need a gap between an oven and a cabinet?
Follow the oven maker's installation guide, which states the clearances that model needs. Built-in ovens are designed around specific air gaps and support, and those differ by brand and model, so there is no safe general number. Do not pack insulation, trim or shims into a gap the guide asks you to leave open. If the guide and the cabinet do not agree, ask before installing.
7. Does a double oven need a cabinet?
A double wall oven needs to be built in, so it goes into a cabinet with a tall enough opening, or a custom surround. Its cutout sheet tells you the height it needs. A double oven range is different: it stands on the floor between base cabinets and does not need an oven cabinet For the full comparison, see cooktop and wall oven vs. a range. Lily Ann's oven cabinets have a single opening and will not take a double wall oven.
8. Does Lily Ann sell a double oven cabinet?
Not as of September 2026. Every oven cabinet we list has one opening, 27 inches wide by 25-1/4 inches high, which is a single-oven layout. We do sell Forno double wall ovens, so if that is your plan, check the oven's cutout height before choosing any cabinet. Ask us if you are unsure which of our cabinets, if any, suits a particular oven.
9. How do I build a cabinet for a wall oven?
Most people do not need to build one, because oven cabinets are sold ready-made in standard tall-cabinet sizes. If you do build one, the oven's installation guide is your plan: it sets the cutout size, what the oven must rest on and the ventilation it needs. We do not publish build plans. A ready-made cabinet, checked against the oven's cutout sheet, removes most of the guesswork.
10. Is it cheaper to buy or build a cabinet?
It depends on your tools, time and skill, so there is no single answer. Building saves on the cabinet itself but needs sheet material, hardware, finishing and accurate cutting. A ready-to-assemble cabinet arrives cut and finished, so you only assemble it. For an oven cabinet, accuracy matters more than usual, because the opening must match the oven's cutout.
11. Are 27 inch wall ovens being phased out?
We cannot confirm that. The claim appears in discussion threads, not in any manufacturer notice we have seen. What you can do is check availability for the exact model you want before you plan the kitchen. Then choose the cabinet to match that oven's cutout sheet, so an oven change later does not leave you with the wrong opening.
